Services

At ERIC A. BIRD we are able to handle most types watch and jewellery repair, unfortunately our clock repair service has now Closed as our in house clock maker Ray Morris has now retired. For further information on the availability of local clock makers please contact the British Horological Institute.

Watch Repairs

We carry out hundreds of minor repairs in house each week, these include the fitting of watch batteries to most brands of watch, replacement of watch glasses, stems & buttons (Winders), bracelets and straps (fitting and adjusting). Some watch servicing is done in house but due to the volume of other work the majority of servicing and in particular mechanical and high value watches are sent to specialist repairers. Estimates supplied by specialist repair companies are likely to attract postal & handling charges should their estimate not be accepted.

Jewellery Repairs

The vast majority of our Jewellery repairs are carried out in house by Tony Hurt; a self employed practical jeweller working in our premises. Again due to the volume of work an out worker is also used for some of the larger commission work. We keep a good stock of jewellery findings which can often be used to carry out quick on the spot repairs for small jobs that don't need to go into the workshop.

Pearl & Bead Threading

In an emergency it is possible for us to rethread pearls and beads in-house, however because of the volume of repairs we handle it is usual for us to send this type of work to a specialist firm once a week.

Valuations

We have now secured the services of Fleur Phillips an Independant Registered Valuer. Fleur will visit the shop and carry out valuations for our customers on site this will elliminate the need to post valuable items. Please contact us for further details.

Engraving

This service is offered as an add-on for the personalisation of watches or items of jewellery primarily purchased from our shop. We offer two types of engraving; Machine engraving which is suitable for watch backs, trophies, tankards, flasks etc. Hand engraving a much more specialised art form. This type of engraving is used on precious metals, the cut is deeper and much more pleasing to the eye. All hand engraving is sent to Birmingham to be done whereas machine engraving is done on-site. We are unable to offer a glass engraving service at present.

Plating

We have contacts in the trade who carry out electroplating in silver and gold. Every job is individual therefore pricing up can be a problem, however a good photograph along with dimensions of the object are usually enough for us to obtain a reasonably accurate estimate.
