Our Company
Our business was started in Lincoln late in 1959 by Mr ERIC BIRD and his wife. Eric had started out in the trade In Ipswitch
before joining the RAF where he worked as an instrument maker during WW2. After the war he worked as a trade repairer in and
around London eventually owning two shops. The time came to move away from London, in 1959 the family decided to move to Lincoln
to be nearer to other family members. A shop was aquired on Lincoln High Street at Ashtons Court. Once again Trade repairs
were undertaken and gradually a little stock was put into the shop. After a few years the chance of a small City Centre unit
cropped up. The business was moved to No 4 Cornhill and a second watchmaker was taken on as trade steadily grew it became
necessary to employ another pair of hands to help with the shop. In 1973 Steve Thompson was employed straight from school
to learn the trade. The business continued to do well over the next few years and in 1977 a growing business and an expiring
lease forced another move. No 1 St Mary's Street was purchased and the business started on it's next chapter. The
next few years saw the business settle down into a steady and secure business new members of staff came and went until 1994
when Eric decided that it was time to retire. After 21 years of working in the business Steve and his wife Maria bought it
from Eric Bird. It was decided that the name and nature of the business would stay the same. Steve and Maria now run
the business together.
